Cropthorne Farm

Sisters Lydia and Rachel Ryall of Cropthorne Farm, on Westham Island near Ladner, BC, cultivate 15 acres of mixed vegetables and flowers, and run a pasture-based poultry operation. Farming is a family affair here - Lydia and Rachel’s parents farmed nearby for over 40 years and have been ever-present at Cropthorne since their retirement in 2011. Over 40 different types of vegetables, from arugula to zucchini, populate the farm, which is certified organic. The farm has grown exponentially since its inception in 2009, when the sisters farmed only a single acre, and their tireless dedication has not gone unnoticed; in 2014 they were awarded the BC Outstanding Young Farmer Award.
